Present day concept of Dowry

On many cases it has been found that the bride’s family offers cash and kind to attract a well educated and good earning man. The bride’s family is ready to invest in order to secure good matrimony for the prospective bride. At the time of the marriage such gifts are handed over to the groom and his family by the bride’s family members with smiling faces. However, if something goes wrong in the marriage then the wife would implicate her husband and his relatives by stating that they had demanded and received dowry during her marriage. How can voluntary gifts be converted into dowry so easily?

If the husband asks for money from his wife it could be termed as demand for dowry. However, if a wife demands money from her husband then it is her marital right and there is nothing wrong with it.

No ministry or government body to represent men and boys

Already there is Women and Child Development (WCD) ministry and National Commission for Women (NCW) to take up all women’s issues and promote laws favouring women. But there is no representation for men or boys in any ministry. As a result of which one after another anti-male are been drafted, passed and enacted by the government.

Men contribute 82% of the income tax, perform toughest of the jobs, bears expenses to run a household for a family. Will a woman ever serve a arm personnel to guard the Line of Control in Siachen Glacier? Will a woman ever work in a mine? Will a woman serving in the police force ever be deployed to control riot? Will a woman serving in Indian Armed Force ever be deployed for combat? Men risk their life to earn a living. Doesn’ t they deserve protection towards their money and property?

The need of the hour is a Men’s Welfare ministry which would take up the issues faced by the men and boys. Otherwise by dissolving Women and Child Development (WCD) ministry and National Commission for Women (NCW) we can have a Gender Equality ministry which would ensure that all laws that are enacted are gender balanced and not gender biased.
