On many cases it has been found that the bride’s family
offers cash and kind to attract a well educated and good earning man. The
bride’s family is ready to invest in order to secure good matrimony for the
prospective bride. At the time of the marriage such gifts are handed over to
the groom and his family by the bride’s family members with smiling faces.
However, if something goes wrong in the marriage then the wife would implicate
her husband and his relatives by stating that they had demanded and received
dowry during her marriage. How can voluntary gifts be converted into dowry so
easily?
If the husband asks for money from his wife it could be
termed as demand for dowry. However, if a wife demands money from her husband
then it is her marital right and there is nothing wrong with it.
